Σύμφωνα με τη New York Times ένας αστυνομικός στη Νέα Υόρκη χρησιμοποιήσε τo iPhone του για να εντοπίσει έναν κλέφτη ο οποίος μπήκε σε μαγαζί με όπλο και πήρε το iPhone μιας γυναίκας. Το κλεμμένο iPhone είχε ενεργοποιημένη την υπηρεσία του Find My iPhone και έτσι ο αστυνομικός χωρίς δεύτερη σκέψη εισήγαγε τα στοιχεία στο Application του Find My iPhone και εντόπισε τον κλέφτη λίγα τετράγωνα παραπάνω.
Οι Αστυνομικοί ακολούθησαν το στίγμα του τηλεφώνου μέσω του χάρτη και αφού έψαξαν καλά το μέρος, ο ύποπτος ο οποίος σύμφωνα με τις αρχές, είχε τοποθετήσει το iPhone στη μπότα του, πέρασε μπροστά από μπροστά τους. Εκείνοι έστειλαν ηχητική εντολή μέσω του Find My iPhone και το τηλέφωνο άρχισε να χτυπάει. Μετά από λίγα λεπτά ο ύποπτος είχε συλληφθεί.

Officers then followed the cyber-scent to the area near 49th Street and Eighth Avenue. As they searched the area, the suspect, who the police said had placed the phone in his boot, walked past the officers. The victim’s phone began to beep. And, soon, the suspect was placed under arrest."
